Replies/Comments to : Top 10 Reasons Not To Vote For Jay Batt in 2010

What type of campaign finance abuse has Jay engaged in? Please give concrete facts, and not the typical -- "Well I heard...", or "My neighbor said...", or "The Times Picayune stated...". If it came from the TP -- state the article name, publication date, and author of the article. If you're going to make a statement like that... you better be able to back it up with concrete facts. The "he said/she said" rhetoric of this site is really getting old.

When a person states publically that he has paid for his transportation to Washington,D.C. out of his "own pocket" and his campaign filings show that his campaign paid for those reimbursements to Entergy...I have to question what "his own pocket" is?
Receiving funds from the Audubon Institute?
To verify this, check his campaign filings to the state.
Not returning calls from conerned citizens...unless they go to the trouble of having neighbors FLOOD his office phone lines with complaints!

To E.S.,
Have you read his campaign finance reports? Very questionable stuff.

9. Jay has engaged in campaign finance abuse.
- Jay used his campaign funds for meals at expensive restaurants, including Smith & Wollensky, the Grill Room, Ruth’s Chris, Commander’s Palace, Clancy’s, Emeril’s and Galatoire’s. In 2004 alone, Jay spent over $17,000 in restaurants like these. He also used campaign funds for "gifts" from the Rex organization and memberships in the New Orleans Museum and the Audubon Nature Institute. He also used campaign donations to purchase $ 4,500 in Sugar Bowl tickets. (See campaign reports below at "Campaign Finance Notes")

E.S.-
I may not have the exact words, but if you have heard Batt's campaign radio ad, it says that Batt paid for his trips to Washington from "his own finances". If you are still doubtful check his campaign filings and you will see that his campaign, not he personally paid for those trips to Washington DC. The Women of the Storm pay for their trips to D.C. ....they are to be praised for their work, not someone who takes from campaign contributions and uses it for self -aggrandizement.

Wouldn't the job of cleaning up City Hall be left to the District Attorney?

Has anyone considered the fact that if Batt wins he has absolute ZERO reason to respond to the electorate for the duration? He cannot run again - so he has even LESS interest in serving the citizenry.

Can you say "Katie - bar the door"? The special interests with big money will come a-callin' and there'll be nothing to stop it. You guys think Lakeview looks awful now???? wait 'til it is unrecognizable - because it's coming.

I'm utterly confused. Writing the day after Batt lost to Ms Guidry in a true landslide I'm curious how he got certain endorsements. The D.A., Mr Cannizaro should know better. Jackie Clarkson should know better. But then I got a postcard two days before the election (Thursday, we voted Saturday) claiming Batt to be endorsed by the Times Pic, Alliance For Good Government, the two politicians named above, and a few other organizations one would expect common sense from.

Is this stuff true? Jay Batt grew up in this city always in the center of attention for his horrendous behavior. He's been alienating people and cultivating real hatred of himself since high school with horrible actions. A leopard does not change his spots- so why would any one expect any different behavior? Even if he's been dried out for a while Batt still has the same character, is the same person without the odor of ethanol. I'm just stunned that in a city where Batt is as widely disliked as anyone could be how did he get these endorsements? What fix is in?
